First opened on May 11th, 1971, by David Levin, The Capital is one of London’s best-kept secrets—often described as a grand hotel in miniature. Recognised as the city’s first boutique hotel, it quickly gained acclaim for its intimate charm and personalised service. In 1973, The Capital became one of the first London hotels to be awarded a Michelin star, setting a new standard in luxury hospitality.
In 1995, the hotel's exterior was remodelled in natural stone to complement the surrounding Victorian architecture, with the façade of The Capital Restaurant designed by Lord David Linley. Through every chapter, The Capital has remained an enduring symbol of authentic British hospitality.
