Knightsbridge is an excellent choice in the city, with historic buildings, incomparable shopping and leafy parks nearby. The Capital apartments and suites are housed in a grand Victorian townhouse on tree-lined Basil Street. Accommodation options are sophisticated and comfortable, well equipped and fully serviced, and range from a cosy Junior Suite to the spacious two storey The Levin Penthouse. The tranquil, light filled surroundings of your suite or apartment may be difficult to leave, but here are a few activities nearby that are hard to resist.
Shop like a royal
Besides the iconic institutions of Harrods (just next door) and Harvey Nicols, the boutiques and flagship stores of Sloane Street are irresistible. Whether you’re window shopping or splashing out, the big name international brands like Hermès, Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Chloe, Cartier, Chanel and Saint Laurent are all here. The street also has a good representation by British brands- both heritage and new- such as Joseph, Jo Malone, Hackett, Emilia Wickstead and Anya Hindmarch.
All the high street and beauty favorites are also in the neighbourhood- AllSaints, COS, Space NK, Nars, Boden and and one of the largest Zara stores in Europe are all under one roof a short wander down Sloane Street at the Duke of York Square. If you’re looking for that timeless pair of Chanel ballet flats or Tod’s loafers, a precisely tailored suit, or simply a fragranced candle to take home, Sloane Street is the London shopping destination of choice.
Picnic in the park
When you’re all shopped out and the weather is fine, what could be better than a picnic lunch in Hyde Park, just a 5 minute stroll away? From your stylish base at The Capital, venture into the famed Harrods Foodhall to stock up, ideally situated a few steps away from your apartment. Delectable delights perfect for a summer picnic include a succulent rotisserie chicken, a crusty sourdough loaf, delicate pastries and a bottle of chilled rosé or cider.
Once you enter the park, wander through the green lawns and London Plane trees until you reach The Serpentine, the historic recreational lake which has been an attraction since the 18th century. Boat hire is open until sundown, or enjoy a ride on the Solarshuttle, a solar-powered boat that travels between the north and south banks of the Serpentine. Other Hyde Park highlights nearby are the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain and the Rose Garden with the Huntress and Boy and Dolphin fountains.
When you make your way back to The Capital, it will most probably be a great time of day for a cocktail at the chic Capital Bar. Delectable liquid treats on offer include the classics- a gin and tonic, martini, old fashioned or Negroni, or treat yourself to an innovative signature cocktail like a Cornish Lady, Sazerac del Dictador or Pisco Punch. There are also complex and delicious low- and non-alcoholic options if you prefer, such as the Pedrino Sherry & Tonic Spritz, Morning Shim, Coconut Lemonade, Strawberry Fizz and a variety of botanical spritzes.
